My name is Irfan Qureshi and I’ve lived in Croydon for the last 45 of 49 years, and feel so close to the community in Croydon and beyond.
My highest need of the five human needs as mentioned by Tony Robbins is growth & contribution.
I’m married, 15 years and have one son; Hadi and he is currently in year six in Ark Oval Primary Academy.

Whilst our children move to secondary school, I think, when one thinks about the community, school is a great place to start. As this is where our kids, our angels spend a lot of their time. Indeed my son's headmaster said that as well as dedicated teachers and children, a dedicated parents in the community is equally important.
This is called parental engagement and it's only natural that parents would want to contribute to maximising the value to their child's learning by realising the importance of extra-curricular activities to enhance the school experience. As well as fundraising for the school, events for new parents etc.
Firstly let me be completely open and let you know that this is my own parental blog, being separate from the official School Parent & Teachers Association (PTA) which is now the Parents Association (PA).
Why? Whilst I’ve been involved in the PTA since my child was in year 1 and now it’s relaunching. I realised that the official Parents Association has a different remit based on the collective of all the parents and advice given by the School.
Indeed, as a parent, I am part of the PA and have even decided to run for office for that. You see, I don't see it as a competitor, rather as complementary.
I've been long thinking of how I can give back and contribute to the Croydon local community and beyond, to an area that I have been living nearly the last fifty years! I was a student of Oval Primary School as it was known then and has been around for more then a hundred years.
I'm passionate about children's development, namely emotional self-confidence and my interest in the topic of personal development.
I got interested in that, by my own volition in secondary school and studied books by Joe Karbo; "The Lazy Man's Way to Riches" and "Unlimited Power" by Tony Robbins. Then onto such books as "Think & Grow Rich" and "How to win friends and influence people".
So it's children's personal development, the introduction of entrepreneurial learning, skills and mindset. To promote that business is an option and more details on it.
To the Parents Association (PA) I have suggested the use of a mobile phone app. called Class-List to make organising events like play in the park, Cake Sale, Fork to Fork quick, safe and easy. Subject to ensuring data is protected. However that is up to the PA as a collective to authorize and see if they want it, my role is only to suggest it.
No doubt, when you can make it, I hope to meet online via the PA or in person as organised by them.
Although, I am a big fan of email and I would encourage you to sign-up to my newsletter to stay in touch. I hope to meet at PA events in whatever format they take place in.
I think that the teachers at my sons school are very dedicated and the children love learning and playing. Perhaps this is a way of me wanting to stay in touch, as this is year six for my child and in not the too distance future the year would go to secondary.
My motto is; "Live anywhere in the World and drive a Porsche". Not that I'm a big speed freak, you get the idea, it's about personal empowerment and being the best version of ourselves that we can be.
